About Red Cedar Writing Project
Red Cedar Writing Project (RCWP) is
Michigan State University's
site of the
National Writing Project.
. The cornerstone of the project is a four-week Invitational Summer Institute in which teachers focus on becoming more effective writers, teachers of writing, teacher researchers, and teacher leaders. At the conclusion of the invitational institute, teachers earn the internationally recognized credential, National Writing Project Teacher Consultant.
Each year, in addition to the invitational institute, RCWP offers open institutes for teachers who are not connected with the network, as well as dozens of

Creating a Community of Writers Using Technology
Red Cedar Writing Project Teacher Consultants act as leaders in our site's work as well as in their own schools and for state and national professional organizations. For example, from 2007-2009 RCWP Teacher Consultants facilitated
, a Title II adolescent literacy initiative collaboratively planned with our partners, Clinton RESD, Genesee ISD, Flint Public Schools, Ingham RESA, Lansing Public Schools, and Shiawassee RESA. In 2013-14 RCWP, once again secured a Title II grant to offer

with our partners Flint Carman-Ainsworth High School, Flint Powers High School, Fenton High School and Flushing High School. In 2014-15, RCWP once again secured a Title II grant to partner with Flint Carman-Ainsworth Middle and High Schools; Flint Powers High School; and Owosso Middle and High Schools (including Lincoln Alternative High School).
RCWP teachers also join one another in a variety of
events designed to sustain them as writers, researchers, leaders, and teachers of writing.
