The Red Cedar Writing Project, a site of the National Writing Project, embraces a "teachers-teaching-teachers" model. During the last week of June and the first three weeks of July, the eighteen teachers selected to participate in the Summer Institute begin each Monday-Thursday at 9:00 AM with a teaching demonstration in the MSU Writing Center.

Subsequently, teachers engage in critical discussions that explore what is meant by "best practice" in composition pedagogy and relate those discussions to that morning's teaching demonstration, the reading they are undertaking, and their own practices. Afternoons are spent writing, participating in writing groups, reading, contributing to reading/research groups, and developing classroom-based research agendas.

Teachers who are accepted into the Red Cedar Writing Project will:
  • Join a community of outstanding teacher scholars, researchers, and teacher-leaders;
  • Receive six complimentary in-state graduate tuition credits (for AL 842 and AL 893D) or a $500 stipend.

Exact dates for this year's summer institute are:
  • Monday, May 12 - RCWP 2008 Orientation (we will provide sub pay for your school)
